For the outdoor person there is hiking, white water rafting, fishing, hunting, horseback riding, ATV trails, and skiing (snow skiing in winter and water skiing in summer). For the creative, you will find historical attractions, arts and crafts, the theater and concerts. Shoppers can "shop 'til they drop" at antique shops and outlets.

And then there's golfing! Our unique location is in the heart of a 2,400-acre golf resort which boasts two championship golf courses. The Apple Valley Course is a Dan Maples designed, well-bunkered, picturesque course where mountain streams and lakes come into play. It stretches to 6,700 yards from the back tees. The course has bent grass greens and Bermuda grass fairways.

Bald Mountain is a lush green course that turns a varied and beautiful terrain into a fun round of golf. The 16th green played a role in the movie Dirty Dancing. WB Lewis designed the course, which features tree-lined creeks, bent grass greens and Bermuda grass fairways.

And if you want a third choice, Lake Lure Municipal Golf Course is about five miles away. It is a nine hole, very challenging, hilly course designed by Donald Ross. In other words, this is a golfer's paradise!

 

Lake Lure is approximately 720 acres in size, with about twenty-seven miles of shoreline. National Geographic has called it one of the most beautiful man-made lakes in the world. Located about 40 miles east of Asheville, Lake Lure's crystal clear water flows through a valley shaped roughly in the form of a Maltese cross.
     

Lake Lure boasts great stretches of water, three long bays, an island of seven acres and many small inlets surrounded by tree clad hills and mountains. The climate is unusually good because Lake Lure lies in the "Thermal Belt."
